Christopher Nolan took the superhero genre and breathed fresh life into it with his take on the Caped Crusader. But after three Batman movies, Nolan has decided it is time to cut ties with the caretaker of Gotham City. That doesn’t mean he has put superheroes on the back burner.

Coming up, Christopher Nolan will act as a producer for a new Superman movie, “Man of Steel.” According to IFC, the Superman movie will be directed by Zack Snyder and is slated for release on May 14, 2013, so you can expect hordes of Superman Halloween costumes descending upon your neighborhood next year. In Nolan’s words, this installment is going to be “pretty remarkable”.

Here are five things you can expect from the latest in the Superman film canon.

Superman is Super Human

Man of Steel Nolan and Snyder are going to give Superman a character enhancement. Expect the unexpected from this traditional superhero that is known and loved by millions from different generations. The story is an origin piece, giving the creative team the opportunity to dive deep into the emotional and psychological elements of the fabled superhero. What Nolan does best is get into the human traits of his characters, separating their comic ingredients, and defying specific standards to the comic book world.

All-Star Cast

Expect big ticket stars to line up for the reboot. Superman/Clark Kent will be played by up-and-comer Brit actor Henry Cavill. The famous Lois Lane, the journalist sidekick of Clark, will be portrayed by three-time Oscar nominee Amy Adams. Other big names include Laurence Fishburne as Perry White, Michael Shannon as General Zod, and Russell Crowe as Jor-El.

Story Matters Here

Recognize that it will be an excellent screenplay. The screenplay was written by David S. Goyer, and it is based upon a Superman story that Goyer and Christopher Nolan himself came up with. The character of Superman is based off of the DC Comics version, which was created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster.

Reverse the Curse

Expect the movie to try and defy the so-called “Superman Curse”. Since the days of Christopher Reeves flying high in the red cape, most Superman movies have plummeted in the box office. And coupled with “The Dark Knight Rises” tragedy in Colorado, this movie has its obstacles ahead of it. But with a superb cast and Nolan behind the scenes, you can rest assured that this movie will do nothing short of giving Superman what he has always deserved on the big screen.

Steel-trapped Loyalty

“Man of Steel” is planned to hit the theaters in June 2013. With so much excitement surrounding the superhero genre right now, especially on the heels of the long-awaited “Dark Knight Rises” flick, it is guaranteed to draw a big crowd to the theaters. While many are concerned about the impact the tragedy in Colorado might have, most superhero fans will not allow that tragedy to impact their enjoyment of this coming film. As a Superman fan said to E Online, by allowing yourself to not enjoy “Man of Steel”, you are letting the perpetrator win.

Whether you are a fan of Batman, Superman or Spiderman, chances are there has been a movie recently released that you have loved and enjoyed. Christopher Nolan has taken this genre and changed everything about it, truly bringing it into the 21st century. And with “Man of Steel”, no one expects anything less. It is sure to be another superhero movie that people are talking about for years to come.
